Redistricting of Upper Providence Twp 168 - 165
I object to the bisection of Upper Providence Township, Delaware County, into two separate Districts. Currently, the entire Township sits in District 168. Contrary to my understanding of the principles espoused for fair districts, it is being split and gerrymandered into two separate ones. Our property, on Sandy Bank Road, will be in the 165th District, while another large portion of the Township will remain in the 168th. Apart from losing my current representative, this change would have us grouped with areas far distant (Springfield and Swarthmore). Both have a distinct character, population center and land use character as from Upper Providence Township. Note that I am not of the same party as our current representative (Chris Quinn), but object to losing him even so (particularly given his strong representation of our community regardless of party affiliation) and of our property being pulled apart from the balance of the Township. The resulting size and shape of the new District (165) is as bad as the Donald Duck Districts of old.
