Opposition to 123rd redistricting plan
My family lives in the 123rd Legislative District, and we have been taken aback with the proposed map which was approved by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission. To remove Shenandoah, Mahanoy City , and Mahanoy Township from the 123rd District and include them in the 116th District of Luzerne County can best be described as unfair to our residents. Our current representative, Mr. Timothy Twardzik was overwhelming elected by the residents of the current district because he thoroughly understands the economic and financial challenges confronting the small towns in 123rd District and for his skills as a businessman. To arbitrarily decide to remove some of his constituents to another district which is represented by someone who is does not share Mr. Twardzik’s expertise and intimate knowledge of the three areas is incomprehensible. I can only describe it as gerrymandering at its worst. It is actions like these that are causing me to lose faith in our state political system. I request that the Legislative Reapportionment Commission reverse this arbitrary and unfair decision.
