The Great Gerrymander
As a lifelong resident, and voter of Central Pennsylvania it is appalling to see the Great Gerrymander unleashed by the 3 Majority members of the LRC. In all my years of following this concern every 10 years, it has never been this partisan. I have lived in Northumberland, Snyder, and Union Counties during various redistricting mapping and have never seen such a blatant attempt to divide and conquer. Anyone with even minimal understanding of the local government shared services would understand what SUN means, Snyder-Union-Northumberland, this map just shreds these services. FACT -the current map splits Snyder and Union Counties, Snyder is now joined with the Lewistown area of Mifflin County while Union County connects with Northern Sullivan County. Is this done for the people OR for the ruling power brokers in Harrisburg, we all know the answer is the later. Rather than drag this through a messy court battle, how about everyone just set their petty egos aside and re-draw the map to reflect longstanding historical alliances. On January 19 start drawing a FAIR map that respects historical relationships. Thanks for allowing me to comment. I shall await the new map.
