August 24th - Legislative Reapportionment Commission Approves Resolution Regarding Prisoner Data Reallocation

At its August 24 meeting, the Legislative Reapportionment Commission approved a resolution that would reallocate the census data for most prisoners held in state correctional institutions from the district in which the institution is located to the district that was their last known home address prior to incarceration. The resolution had been introduced by Representative Joanna McClinton, the Democratic Leader of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. In addition to Representative McClinton, the resolution was supported by Senator Jay Costa, the Democratic Leader of the Pennsylvania Senate, and Mark Nordenberg, the Chair of the Legislative Reapportionment Commission. Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward and House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff voted against the resolution.
