Allegheny Co Bethel Park Municipal Ward Divisions
The Pennsylvania Constitution requires "minimal splits" when it comes to establishing Legislative Districts. However, compare Bethel Park on the current map and how it is to be on the proposed map. Currently, Bethel Park is divided into two districts; six whole wards in one and the other three wards in the other one. The proposed map also has the community split with three wards in one district and six wards in the other. The difference, though, is that five wards are split with some voting districts in one Legislative District and the remaining voting districts in the other Legislative District. If the Reapportionment Commission truly wanted "minimal splits" it would have placed eight entire wards in the two Legislative Districts and divided up one ward to achieve population equity in both Districts.
