Keep Mt. Lebanon in the 37th Senate District
I am a resident of Mt. Lebanon, Allegheny County where I have resided with and raised my family for the last 26 years. The current Senate District 37 consists of many contiguous communities in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. The proposed District 42 consists of Mt. Lebanon and parts of the City of Pittsburgh extending north of the City. I write to oppose moving Mt. Lebanon from the current 37th Senate district to the new proposed District 42. For years, Mt. Lebanon has been the central focus of the 37th Senate District in size, as a commercial center and as a suburban community. It has consistently been aligned with communities proposed to remain in the 37th senate district including Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park. If Mt. Lebanon becomes part of the proposed 42nd Senate District, the citizens of Mt. Lebanon will lose their voice against a larger city community and it will make it harder for Mt. Lebanon to share resources with contiguous communities. It is vitally important to preserve Mt. Lebanon in se senate district with like communities in the southern and western suburbs of Allegheny County for a number of reasons including public school excellence, commerce, as a centralized location for the South Hills communities, for the ability to maintain joint municipal authorities and continuities of government such as ambulance services and other unifying cultural and governmental efforts. I therefore implore the commission to keep Mt. Lebanon as part of the 37th Senate District.
