Anti-gerrymandering, pro-independent redistricting
I strongly believe that voters should choose their representatives and not the other way around. Legislators choosing their voters via blatant gerrymandering is quite literally an affront to our democratic republic. Especially given the recent years of misinformation and growing distrust in the US voting system, it is extremely important that we strengthen faith in our government and voting processes. Looking at the proposed redistricting maps, it is clear to me that district lines are being drawn on a political basis rather than community basis. This obvious effort to segregate voters for political gain is unfortunately not unique to Philly or PA. I am in strong support of an independent redistricting committee as I believe the right to vote - and have your vote and opinions actually count - is absolutely critical to our communities and society on the whole. My comments here are aimed at highlighting the need for reconsideration of the redistricting process in order to redistribute this important voting power to taxpaying citizens in the communities where they live. Redistricting should not be in the hands of politically motivated partisan legislators trying to section off voters for personal/professional/political gain.
