Keep North Huntingdon Whole

Dear Pennsylvania Legislative Reapportionment Commission: Hello Mr. Nordenberg, Sen Ward, Sen. Costa, Rep. Benninghoff, and Rep. McClinton, I am the Commissioner for the Third Ward of North Huntingdon Township, a First Class Township located in the western section of Westmoreland County. I am writing regarding the proposed division of our township betwen the 56th and 58th legislative district. As I am sure you are all aware, the Pennsylvania Constitution states that “unless absolutely necessary, no County, City, Incorporated town, borough, township or ward shall be divided” when these legislative districts are created. This plan is undoubtedly unconstitutional and is in direct opposition to the best interests of North Huntingdon Township. There is no absolute necessity that our township be divided. There is no one section of our township that more aligns geographically, socially, or economically with a neighboring municipality rather than our own. All of our residents share public services and resources throughout our township with no issues. To divide our township would be a direct violation of our township’s autonomy and our resident’s constitutional rights. I ask that this current map be thrown out and allow for our residents to stay in the same legislative district as their neighbors. This is not only the right thing to do, but it is what our residents want. We do not want to be a victim of gerrymandering when our township has no reason to be divided. Respectfully, Jason L Atwood North HuntingdonTownship Commissioner Third Ward
