Remove as much partisanship as possible.
I believe that no current or past legislators or political party staff should be allowed to take part in the process. The current process has resulted in clearly unfair and non-representative districts. Right now the Republican Party is the more dangerous threat to democracy, but in the future it could be the Democrats. The process should be as non-partisan as possible.
