Opposition to LRC Redistricting Plan
To whom it may concern, To put it bluntly, this redistricting plan is unnecessary, unethical, and dangerous for the prospect of progress in Northampton Township. The Pennsylvania GOP has taken a leap too far in trying to gerrymander my hometown, and as an educated, well-connected, and firmly progressive constituent of this township, I will not let it stand. I am appalled by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission's plan to rip Northampton apart, not only because it will weaken Democratic and Progressive power in the township, but also because this clearly malicious and self-serving act will reduce funding and support for the people in Northampton, their public facilities, and their needs as a whole. The GOP is so firmly entrenched in their pre-authoritarian attitudes that they cannot even see when their greed splits communities and destabilizes the democratic process, but let me assure you, I can. This is disgraceful, it is dangerous, and it upholds a precedent that is selfish and lacking any justification or logical grounds. This action is being taken to further cement minority rule in Pennsylvania, and it is disgusting. Progressive policies must be allowed to be introduced and implemented if the state government has any hope of providing for its constituents in any meaningful way, and this redistricting plan makes it nearly impossible for this to happen. The LRC is manipulating a racist, privileged, broken system to protect an institution that they have no right to destroy. I will not stand for this, and Pennsylvania will not stand for this. I implore any of you with decency and forethought, education and honor, to abandon this revolting plan and keep Northampton together. Wendi Thomas opposes this plan, as should you all. May you never forget who you work for, and let our will, not yours, be done.
