North Pocono COG Opposed to new 113th District
As Chairman of the North Pocono Council of Government, I submit the following testimony which was unanimously approved by our body at a regular business meeting held on January 12, 2022: The North Pocono Council of Government, comprised of Clifton Township, Covington Township, Elmhurst Township, Jefferson Township, Madison Township, Moscow Borough, Roaring Brook Township, Springbrook Township and Thornhurst Township in Lackawanna County, wish to submit this unified comment on the proposed State House Redistricting Map. While keeping the North Pocono municipalities together makes good sense, the needs of both our residents and rural communities could not differ more than those of the City of Scranton. Including our rural communities along with two-thirds of the city of Scranton, is not going to provide equitable representation across the proposed 113th District. The North Pocono Council of Government vehemently opposes the proposed move of our eight municipalities from the 118th District to the 113th District on the proposed State House Redistricting Map.
