Etna Borough should remain in District 21
As a resident of the Borough of Etna, Ward 1, I want to give testimony that it is important that Etna remain a part of District 21 and not have the redistricting effort put Etna in District 33. Etna Borough would be separated out from the other municipalities in the Shaler Area School District. We have specific partnerships with Millvale including a shared library system and other nonprofit joint efforts. Etna Borough and Shaler Township work together on joint projects such as stormwater management / flood prevention work and the on-going effort to build the Little Pine Creek Connector Trail. There are other shared services and projects that we speak to our representative about that would now require multiple conversations rather than having a single point of contact who can hear us and can advocate for us. Our history in District 21 has proven that the representatives of this District do listen to their constituents and work on behalf. We would be at a significant disadvantage in the new District 33; in District 21, we have benefited by having smaller, urbanized communities paired together as a district and that has allowed our smaller voices to be heard and our issues to be addressed.
