Etna Community Org. opposes proposed House Dist.
On behalf of the Etna Community Organization, we oppose the proposed House District that have placed the three wards of Etna Borough into District 33. We are currently in District 21, which has been an excellent fit for us as we share similar issues, services, and projects with the municipalities and organizations within District 21. In addition, we have a shared zoning and comprehensive plan with Millvale Borough and Sharpsburg Borough. Nonprofit organizations New Sun Rising (Millvale), Etna Community Organization, and the Sharpsburg Neighborhood Organization work together in a collaborative manner to share resources, funding, and project efforts - many of which are tied together at the state level through funding. Millvale Borough, Millvale Community Library, Etna Borough, and the Etna Community Organization are working together on a shared library system. The new house district breaks apart these important multi-municipal efforts. We also want to voice an opportunity to have the entire Shaler Area School District to be represented by a single representative; the proposed redistricting map has Etna Borough separated from Shaler Township, Millvale Borough, and Reserve Township.
