Lower Dauphin School Board Proclamation

Adopted at the Monday, January 10, 2022 meeting of the Board of School Directors of Lower Dauphin School District: Whereas, the Board of School Directors of the Lower Dauphin School District is aware of the proposed legislative redistricting of the municipalities which comprise our District; and Whereas, the Board of School Directors has learned that Hummelstown Borough will be moved to the proposed 104th legislative district while the rest of the school district’s municipalities would be part of the 106th legislative district; Whereas, the Board feels that it would be in the best interest of the citizens of Lower Dauphin to be in a single, common legislative district; and Whereas, the 2021 Pennsylvania Legislative Reapportionment Commission failed to recognize that moving Hummelstown into a legislative district with municipalities from Central Dauphin School District, Steelton-Highspire School District and Harrisburg City School District does not make geographic sense; and Now, therefore; be it resolved that the Lower Dauphin School District Board of School Directors wishes to express its opposition to the preliminary map that has redrawn Hummelstown Borough out of the 106th PA House District; And, the Board wishes to inform the Commission that there is a connectivity that exists and is celebrated within our surrounding municipalities which will be harmed with the proposed change. And, now, the Board of School Directors directs that a copy of this document be made a part of the official minutes of the Lower Dauphin School District Board of School Directors meeting of 10 January, 2022.
