Proposed Northampton Township Redistricting
We are writing to express our opposition to the proposed redistricting which would divide Northampton Township into two legislative districts. Northampton has been represented by the 178th Legislative District for the past 40 years and the basis for the proposed redistricting appears to be ill-conceived (at best) and without due consideration for its negative impact on the Township’s many and varied municipal services. Furthermore, we believe that the singular and unified representation of the Township and its residents by a single representative and a single legislative district has benefited the Township Supervisors’ ability to respond to the needs of the community and its businesses. Consequently, we respectfully, but emphatically, request that the Preliminary Reapportionment Plan proposed by the 2021 Pennsylvania Legislative Reapportionment Commission be amended in a way that keeps all of the 18 voting districts that make up the Township of Northampton together and within the boundaries of the 178th Legislative District.
