Keep Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy Together
January 16, 2022 PA Legislative Reapportionment Commission 210 North Office Building 401 North Street Harrisburg, PA 17120 Dear Commission Members: We, the undersigned, are residents of the current 200th legislative district and neighbors in the community of Chestnut Hill. We write to oppose the preliminary map that overhauls our district and reconfigures the 194th district for the following reasons: 1. The preliminary map for the 194th district would separate Chestnut Hill from its sister neighborhood, Mt. Airy, two “communities of interest” which have similar concerns, shared resources and are often of like mind on many local issues. 2. The aforementioned district map would group us with neighborhoods on the other side of the Wissahickon Creek and Wissahickon Valley Park, including Roxborough and Manayunk. For many reasons, geographical distance being one, they are not communities of interest. 3. The redrawn 194th district would create an extreme demographic swing. It would move to one that would be majority white, from one that is currently majority Black. 4. Unlike the Germantown neighborhood, Mt. Airy has been represented by one state representative for many years. We respectfully ask the following: 1. Allow for Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy to remain together in one legislative district as connected communities of interest; and, 2.
