Republican Voters Concentrated in 160th District
The proposed map concentrates Republican voters in 160th District and dilutes Republican representation in the 162nd, 165th and the 168th Districts. Redrawing maps in this fashion will give the Democratic party greater registration in the 162nd, 165th and the 168th Districts. My good friends and neighbors of the 162nd, 165th and the 168th Districts who were always willing to compromise and believe in the integrity of our local government will feel abandoned. They will feel (and rightly so) that no one protects them. If these proposed maps are approved, Delaware County Republicans who are beginning to question the integrity of our local electoral system will have their doubts reinforced. These maps are, on their face, unfair to Republicans of the 162nd, 165th and the 168th Districts. In these polarized times the redistricting committee should strive to build cohesion, unity and the electoral system’s reputation for fairness. Sadly, the proposed maps, if approved, will exacerbate existing tensions and polarization.
