redistricting chestnut hill
This proposal makes no sense to me from a community perspective. Mt. Airy is our closer and contiguous neighbor, and we share many common interests. Roxborough and the 21st Ward are on the other side of the Wissahickon and linked to our community by only two roads, Bells Mills and Walnut Lane. We share two train lines with Mt. Airy, but public transportation to Roxborough takes 36 minutes on a good day, involving two buses and significant foot power. We share community services like churches, playgrounds, and gathering spaces; and public resources like the Local, police and fire, Chestnut Hill Hospital and our admired representative, Chris Rabb. Should this proposal proceed, the demographics of our long-standing racially integrated district will change dramatically from 64% Black to 14% and 26% White to 76%.
