Opposition to Redistricting of 178th Leg District

To: PA LRC The following comments are in opposition to the proposed redistricting that would divide Northampton Township into two legislative districts. For more than 40 years, there was a single State Representative for all Northampton Township in the 178th Legislative District in regard to all matters of state and local government. The proposed redistricting would be detrimental to Northampton Township since the residents of Districts 9, 10 and 14 of the Township of Northampton will be deprived of consistent and uniform representation within the PA House of Representatives. Multiple legislative representatives create confusion and lack of cohesion in the representation of these matters. In addition, this change would be at odds with the representation of these districts within the PA Senate, where all Northampton Township is represented by the same senator and is all in the same legislative district. Please consider an amendment to the Preliminary Reapportionment Plan proposed by the 2021 PA Legislative Reapportionment Commission that eliminates the displacement of any residents of the Township of Northampton from the 178th Legislative District, and instead keeps all Eighteen (18) voting districts that make up the Township of Northampton together and within the 178th Legislative District. This amendment would keep the Township of Northampton entirely within a single Legislative District and would continue its long term representation by a single State Representative. Thank you for your consideration.
