Redistricting plans for PA 200

As an active voter and long-time resident of the Mt. Airy neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia, I strongly support the People’s Map created by Fair Districts PA as it relates to the proposed boundaries of the current 200th legislative district. As a community of interest with a long history of civic engagement stretching back over 80 years, it is critical that Mt. Airy is not diluted and that the 19119 zip code is kept in one district. I support the boundaries in the People’s Map because it keeps communities of interest intact and decouples these neighborhoods from communities on the other side of the Wissahickon Gorge that have distinct interests of their own. In addition, Mt. Airy and adjacent Chestnut Hill are connected by geography, schools, and local businesses in a way that creates a strong and lively community of interest. I value the diversity of families and residents who call Mt Airy home. I believe that LRC’s well intentioned preliminary map unnecessarily divides a vibrant neighborhood by carving out borders based on ward lines that have little meaning to local residents. For these reasons, I respectfully request that the LRC redefine the boundaries of northwest Philadelphia district 200 in the spirit of Fair Districts PA’s People’s Map.
