Thoughts on the House Map and Centre County

Chair Nordenberg and the Legislative Reapportionment Commission, I'm Kyle Peck, a retired Professor of Education at Penn State and an advocate for fair districts and voting rights.. I'm writing to support the proposed PA House district lines for Centre County and the Commonwealth, as shared with the public. I have been impressed by the thoughtful deliberation, fairness, and transparency i observed in as the Committee did its work, and I respect the result. The results seem to offer a more competitive district in Centre County (HD-82) and it seems to better represent our region as a whole, given the demographics of the region, and are certainly an improvement over the recent past's maps. Centre County is currently split into four different House districts, three of which are tied in with other counties that lean Republican. Our voices have not been accurately represented across the Commonwealth. By allocating the population centers in a more compact and contiguous manner, and allowing us to be within three districts rather than four, makes it fairer, our races are likely to be more competitive. Thank you for your commitment and efforts towards upholding Pennsylvania’s democracy, and for taking our comments seriously.
