The redistricting of Pennsylvania

I am very concerned about the redistricting effort that is currently being planned in our state. I understand that communities are being divided and reapportioned. The Constitution of the State of Pennsylvania guarantees that redistricting should avoid municipal splits. The reason behind this is clear: we are not to dilute the voice of communities just because we don’t like their representation. If we do, the result will be that the voice of communities that represent a particular party is silenced. However, my district (168) is scheduled to be redistricted so drastically that the original district (Thornbury, Edgmont, Middletown, Upper Providence, and Media Borough) will be completely unrecognizable as we will be thoroughly split up and our representation in Harrisburg will be severely compromised. This not only violates the intent of the Pennsylvania State Constitution. It is also utterly undemocratic and encourages the polarization that is already at a high. We do not need any more division than there already is in this country. I urgently request that you stop the redistricting, bring openness into the process, and let the people have a vote in this critical issue.
