Redistricting testimony

Dear Commissioners - I write to encourage you to reject and revise your preliminary redistricting map in favor of the “People’s Map” proposed by Fair Districts PA. Chestnut Hill where I reside, and our near neighbors in Mt. Airy, have been connected as part of the “German Townships” since long before the American revolution. We are linked by Germantown Avenue, two Septa rail lines and bus lines. We share public services, businesses, civic spaces and religious organizations. These communities are notable for being racially integrated for many, many years and a perhaps unintended but unfortunate consequence of your redistricting plan would convert our district to one overwhelmingly white. The Wissahickon creek and gorge are natural barriers crossed only by two roads, one of which has serious traffic volume limits. This also limits interaction between the populations of Roxborough and Chestnut Hill/Mt. Airy. Please consider the afore mentioned alternative “People’s Map” Respectfully Denis Lucey
