Historic Change for Snyder County

I am saddened to see the preliminary map take Snyder County down to one State Representative. As a County Commissioner who goes to our State Representatives on an almost weekly basis to help deal with issues in Snyder County, having more than one Representative has always been helpful to me. When I was first elected County Commissioner, Snyder County was represented by three State Reps. Please understand that our county has been privileged to have great Representatives. Having said that, each individual has their own areas of interest, things for which they are passionate and having that breadth of knowledge in more than one Representative has been very helpful during my time in county public service. I also want to draw attention to the fact that Snyder County has had multiple Representatives for more than 40 years. This has proven to be very beneficial to our county. I also believe it has had an impact on the fact that Snyder County was one of only a few counties in central Pennsylvania to have actually seen an increase in population in this most recent census. I implore the Commission to please consider allowing Snyder County to continue to have more than one Representative. I appreciate the ability to draw from my Representatives' strengths to the betterment of our county residents. I also appreciate the broader representation we enjoy when more than one Representative is able to take an issue to one of the committees on which they serve. I appreciate your time and attention to the many details that have gone into creating these maps but please consider Snyder County's history in which most residents have grown accustomed to having more than one Representative serving the interests of Snyder County residents. Thank You, Joe Kantz, Chairman, Snyder County Commissioner
